Garlic Cheese Biscuits, Busy Mom Series, Day 3

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons dried milk powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Cajun seasoning to taste (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 turns of the pepper grinder
  • 1/3 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into slices
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons minced dried onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes, optional
  • ½ to ¾ cup buttermilk, as needed
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted and divided (do not use margarine)
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder



  1. Preheat your oven to 400º F.
  2. Place the flour, baking powder, milk powder, garlic powder, Cajun seasoning, and salt and pepper in a medium bowl.
  3. Whisk until thoroughly mixed.
  4. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and cut the butter into the flour with a pastry blender until crumbly.
  5. Add the cheddar cheese, onion and parsley flakes – stir well.
  6. Add a small amount of buttermilk to create a “shaggy” dough.
  7. Lightly flour a smooth, hard surface and lay the dough on top of the flour.
  8. Knead the dough several times until smooth.
  9. Gently pat the dough into a circle – ½” thick
  10. With 3” round cutter (a can open on both ends will work), cut out 8 biscuits.
  11. Push the scraps together to form the last couple of biscuits.
  12. Lightly spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray.
  13. Place the biscuits on the baking sheet and drizzle the tops with 2 tablespoons of the melted butter.
  14. Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes – until lightly browned.
  15. While the biscuits are cooking, stir together the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter and the 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  16. Brush the mixture over the tops of the biscuits as soon as they come out of the oven.
  17. Serve immediately – best if served while hot.
